new ideas..

I was at a Crafts Fair on Martha’s Vineyard, (my favorite place), and I found this amazing artist Jynell of Jynell had a wonderful table covered with mugs, glasses, and t-shirts, oh my, and featuring drawings of hers of the Islander Ferry and the Great White Shark, Jaws. The drawings were fabulous as you see and her artwork is inspiring and filled with creativity, whimsy and delight.

As artists, our creative eye is always roaming, seeking and searching for that personal and collective experience to explore, interpret and share with others. There is no greater joy than when another artists responds to your artistic vision. There is a shared understanding of  the courage necessary for the artist to display their (he)art and therefore a piece of  themselves, with a mixture of elation, chagrin, courage and joy to the public.

I watched Jynell and her husband Jeff, as they worked her busy table selling her designs and I was drawn to one of her designs of the Islander Ferry. The Islander Ferry is retired now, but as a child this was my all-time favorite ferry to ride to and from Martha’s Vineyard. It was small, quaint and sturdy and Jynell accurately captured the allure and majesty of this familiar freight vessel on her glassware and accessories.

The Martha’s Vineyard mystique is not complete without a picture of the Great White Shark lunging hungrily out of the murky depths of the sea searching for lunch. Jynell has paid homage to this iconic shark with her drawings, displayed in all its glory on her glassware and t-shirts. It isn’t just that the drawings are wonderful but the mugs are top-notch and the t-shirts are first-rate.

The ocean and all its glory, mystery, and magic are depicted with loving detail in all of Jynell’s work at and she offers other creative wares: bags for all seasons, wallets, key chains, and her signature plaid bags that are a must see. also incorporates her love of another island, Bermuda,  known for its tranquil colors and azure water inspiring her to begin her business and share her creative flair for design since the early 90s.
